Pro Wrestling Controversy creates cash by Eric Bischoff review

Lance Brodie;

The title of this book would give you the feel that the story would be all about controversy. I mean, who wouldn't believe this is a story about controversy when the title is Controversy Creates Cash. The title is what made me want to read Eric Bischoff's story. I have never been a fan of wrestlers writing books about their careers. They always seem to gloat about the good times and the bad times are always someone else's fault, someone was always holding them back. I saw something different then the regular wrestler's story. Here is Eric Bischoff, the man who single handedly almost brought the WWE to its knees with his titan of wrestling WCW backed by Turner Broadcasting. How could this man not have something special to tell? For the first time we get to hear a story of rise and fall from a man who was on the lowest end of the poll to the highest end.

Is this story very controversial? No, not really. Nothing-major unknown came out of the story that hasn't already been known by the long time wrestling fan. What the story does do is it actually clears the record of many of the urban legends that surround Eric Bischoff and WCW. If you bothered to purchase the Monday Night wars DVD then you should take the time to purchase this book because it is far better and gives a more in depth and detailed outlook from the WCW side. The stories you may have read about Eric Bischoff have mostly been wrong. The internet "facts" that we have read about have given incorrect information about Eric Bischoff in almost every possible way during his life. Eric takes the time to clear up these false statements, then turns the guns toward the dirt sheets and gives one of the best critical reviews I have ever read.

The early part of the book explains in great detail his early life "child hood and growing up in Michigan" as well as his life before he entered in the business of wrestling. "Karate/martial arts, sales positions and even running his own company" His first encounter with the wrestling business started with the AWA. He soon became an on air talent but was always considered an outsider by Vern and the wrestlers on staff. This helped Eric when he entered WCW. He came in with refreshing ideas and was able to win the roll of executive producer. Eric's new strategy allowed WCW to do something they had never done before... TURN A PROFIT!

In detail Eric Bichoff's story rationalizes many of his decisions he made, as well as how WCW/WWE Monday Night Wars began. He also goes into detail on how WCW shifted the tide and beat out WWE and how WWE returned the favor. Eric also goes into detail about Ted Turner and the Time Warner AOL merger and what that did to WCW.

Pros

1. Eric Bischoff clears up all the false facts that the dirt sheets have written about him over the years.
2. It takes you back and gives an inside look at the Monday Night Wars by the man who created it.
3. No cheap shots were taken like in most "wrestling books"
4. Shows exactly how difficult it is to run a wrestling organization and what it takes.
5. Eric goes very in depth about the turmoil behind the scenes with their corporate backing.
Cons

1. Some of the "controversy" was not mentioned " David Arquett WCW title reign"
2. Eric Bischoff takes credit for all the good things that happened in WCW, But seems to put the blame elsewhere when it comes to the things that went wrong.
3. Not enough focus on the struggles with the wrestler ego's and the control the wrestlers had in the background with their characters.

Overall, in my opinion if you are a wrestling fan this is a must read.

I'm a huge wrestling fan who has been following the sport for over 20 years. I've always liked the "Bad Guy". When Eric Bishoff wrote a book about his life story, I just had to buy it. You should definately buy it if you're a fan like myself. Eric Bischoff: Controversy Creates Cas
